February 2012 - Carpets & Glovebox Fitting

Although very dirty the old carpet set cleaned up very well after two sessions of deep shampooing. Some 15' of sound deadening felt (54" wide) was acquired, this was used as carpet underlay and for general sound proofing in other areas of the car. The gloveboxes were in very poor condition and not fit for purpose - 2 sheets of 5' x 4' black millboard (2.3mm thick) was sourced and this proved to be the ideal material for making new ones. This millboard was also used for lining the rear seat squab carpeting and relining the boot. A new rear parcel shelf, central pillar covers and front kick panels were made using the old items as templates and employing the same techniques that I used for repairing the door cards.
